A Pediatric Lateral Submental Mass: A Rare Presentation of Dermoid Cyst

Dermoid cysts are benign cutaneous neoplasms that contain germ cells from the ectoderm and mesoderm. Approximately 70% diagnosed during childhood before age of 5. Although they can present throughout body, prevalence is 7% for those arising head neck. These lesions primarily as midline masses classified sublingual, submental, or overlapping depending on their relationship with muscles floor mouth. A 10-year-old female presented a 2-week history right submental swelling. She denied pain, dysphagia, odynophagia, respiratory distress. Physical examination showed nontender fullness region without erythema induration no palpable cervical lymphadenopathy. Ultrasound an oval-shaped cystic mass measuring 4.8 × 4.0 2.6 cm. After course clindamycin, computed tomography was obtained which 4.5 cm fluid filled lesion, within lateral Intraoral resection performed freed geniohyoid mylohyoid. Histopathology consistent dermoid cyst. Submental have broad differential, but rarely if arise to midline. With appropriate diagnosis total surgical excision, patients families be reassured in similar cases.
